Interstate 76 Reopens After Route 1 Deadly Crash in Philadelphia

Interstate 76 reopened after a deadly crash occurred on the ramp from the Schuylkill Expressway West to Route 1 North in Philadelphia. The fatal multi-vehicle accident took place around 4 am on Friday morning, and involved three cars. One car caught on fire and trapped the occupants, causing one individual a fatal injury, and shutting down the road for several hours.

Crashes involving more than two vehicles not only clog up congested highways, but create conditions for more accidents and the possibility of catastrophic injuries as well as fatalities. During the early morning hours, commuters face poor visibility and may engage in drowsy driving, which could contribute to the severity of accidents.
