As reported both nationally and in The Legal Intelligencer, the Pennsylvania Superior Court has affirmed a record-setting $55 million jury verdict against Honda Motor Company from a product liability lawsuit involving a seat belt defect.

Multiple news outlets, including AP, CBS News, NPR, KYW, Legal Intelligencer, and the Philadelphia Business Journal, are reporting that a historic settlement has been reached in the May 2015 Amtrak derailment that happened in Philadelphia. The PMC believes that the settlement will allow all the pending claims related to the Amtrak derailment to be paid out by summer 2017.

Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Judge Shelley Robins New was not persuaded by American Honda Motor Co. ’s arguments that Philadelphia was an inconvenient forum or that the court improperly admitted evidence of alternative seat-belt designs that were developed after the car was manufactured but before the accident at issue occurred.
